Keck Medicine of USC is calling for staff nominations for the ninth annual USC Choi Family Awards for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care, which will be presented the evening of June 6.
The awards were created when the Choi family estate made a generous gift to Keck Medicine’s Patient Experience Department in honor of the organization’s dedication to patient service and advocacy. The funds established the USC Choi Family Patient-Centered Care Program and the USC Choi Family Awards for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care, which honors both individuals and care teams.
Individual recipients of the prestigious award each receive $2,000 and have their name added to a plaque located in Keck Hospital of USC’s Cardinal Lobby. They also receive an additional $2,000 for their team.
Selected teams will receive $4,000 to fund programs, training and activities to support and foster the culture of patient-centered care.
How to participate
You can nominate any nurse, resident, fellow, physician or non-nurse staff member who you believe demonstrates compassion, empathy and patient-centered care.
Nominees must be full-time employees who have consistently worked for Keck Medicine for the past three years (fellows and residents excepted).
Each nomination must include supporting documentation such as endorsements, anecdotes, patient reviews, previous awards and recommendation letters.
It’s a good idea to keep letters to just a few paragraphs. Include concrete examples of your nominee’s values, such as:
- Contributions to patient- and family-centered care
- Demonstrations of empathy and compassion
- Being a patient advocate
- Exemplifying Keck Medicine’s KNOWN service standards
Once you’ve gathered your materials, complete the nomination form available on the SharePoint page for the Choi Family Awards for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care (Keck Medicine sign-on required).
The page also includes a link for submission, as well as details on the awards. Those with questions may email PXEvents@med.usc.edu.
