A clinical trial from Keck Medicine of USC aims to provide a surgical solution for patients with a form of advanced pancreatic cancer previously considered inoperable.
Until now, pancreatic cancer treatment has been limited to chemotherapy and radiation because the pancreas is surrounded and filled with arteries that carry blood to the rest of the body. A novel procedure, however, combines hepatobiliary and vascular surgery expertise to make tumor removal safe.
Preceding this surgery with chemotherapy to shrink the tumor could dramatically reduce the disease’s mortality rate.
