On July 31, Rod Hanners, CEO of Keck Medicine of USC, released an announcement regarding Keck Medicine of USC’s high rankings from this year’s US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals issue. The memo has been reprinted here to make it easily available to all employees, patients and friends throughout Southern California.

The 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings have been announced, and once again, I am pleased to say that Keck Medical Center of USC was recognized among the very best hospitals in the United States.

U.S. News & World Report analyzes 15 different specialties and this year we ranked in the top 50 nationwide for 10 of those specialties, an increase of two additional specialties.

In other highlights:

  • Our 2023-2024 rankings are higher than last year in four specialties, including Cancer.
  • Keck Medical Center is now ranked in the top 50 in the nation in three new specialties — Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neurology & Neurosurgery and Rehabilitation.
  • Our medical center rated High Performing (the highest rating possible) in 15 common procedures and conditions that were evaluated nationally, including Heart Bypass Surgery, Colon Cancer Surgery and Hip and Knee Replacement.
  • For the first time, U.S. News & World Report evaluated hospitals in Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma and Keck Medical Center was rated High Performing.
  • USC Norris Cancer Hospital was recognized as a Best Specialty Hospital for the first time.

We are very pleased with the results, especially considering the change in ranking methodology this year that may have impacted some of our ratings.

We are also extremely proud of the medical center’s many other recent recognitions, such as Keck Hospital’s recent 5-star quality rating (the highest possible) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services 2023 quality star rating report.

Looking to the future, we are always examining ways to optimize our process for reporting data to illustrate our highest standards of care.

For now, I speak for all leadership in thanking you for your dedication and commitment to making the organization such a special place to work and for our patients to receive care. We see the quality of your work every single day, and it is an honor to work alongside you.

Sincerely,

Rod Hanners
CEO, Keck Medicine of USC
