Rod Hanners accepts his Health Care Executive of the Year award from the Los Angeles Business Journal

On Aug. 21, Keck Medicine of USC CEO Rod Hanners and Inderbir Gill, MD, founding executive director of USC Urology, were honored at the Los Angeles Business Journal Health Care 2024 Leadership Awards.

Hanners was recognized as Health Care Executive of the Year for his leadership of Keck Medicine. Gill received the award for Outstanding New Health Care Product or Service of the Year for his work developing AI Physician Co-Pilot, a platform that streamlines the new patient intake process and allows physicians to focus on patients more fully during visits.

Five Keck Medicine individuals or programs were honored as finalists:

  • Marty Sargeant, MBA, CEO of Keck Medical Center of USC, in the category of CEO of the Year
  • Annette Sy,  DNP, RN, NE-BC, chief nursing executive for Keck Medical Center, in the category of Hospital Executive of the Year (non-CEO)
  • Keck Medical Center of USC in the category of Top Hospital or Medical Center
  • USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and its Day of Discovery Program, which provides high school students with hands-on healthcare experience, in the category of Outstanding Collaboration.

Hanners also served on a panel with other Los Angeles area industry leaders that kicked off the awards program. During the discussion, Hanners addressed Keck Medicine’s successful strategies for retaining workforce and avoiding staff burnout. He was joined on the panel by Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health, and Paul Viviano, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, among others.

The event was held at The Biltmore Los Angeles. The business journal honored 13 individuals and programs selected from throughout the Los Angeles area.
