The USC Tina and Rick Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is dedicated to maintaining resident and fellow education as long as clinic and surgical volumes are reduced. Toward this end, the department has led an effort involving more than 40 institutions across the nation to offer online education at no cost to the students. Together, they organized the Collaborative Multi-Institutional Otolaryngology Residency Education Program using Zoom, with many of the initial speakers being USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery faculty.

The program has a class schedule that rotates through top faculty from the participating programs. Anyone who is interested can log in to listen to the lectures and participate in discussions. The lectures are recorded and stored in the cloud so that people who are unable to participate in real time can watch them at their convenience.

The online classes started March 23 and have been averaging 100–200 participants per day. Another 500–600 people have been watching the recorded videos. The program is scheduled to finish at the end of June.

The class runs every weekday from 4–6 p.m. PDT. Go to https://sites.usc.edu/ohnscovid/, then click on the “Enter Classroom” tab to log in and participate.
