Price growth among system and non-system California hospitals is generally similar, but there is wide variation across hospital systems, according to a new white paper released by the USC Schaeffer Center.

The study focused on prices paid by private health plans, since these insurers negotiate prices with hospitals.

“There is a lot of talk about the negative effects of consolidation, but we found that not all systems are alike,” said Erin Trish, PhD, co-director of the USC Schaeffer Center and associate professor at the USC School of Pharmacy.
