This year, the Donald E. and Delia B. Baxter Foundation — a long-time supporter of research at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and USC Stem Cell — named Albert Almada, PhD, and Miller Huang, PhD, Baxter Foundation Faculty Fellows. To help these scientists early in their career, when researchers need funds the most, the foundation bestowed each of them with $100,000.
Almada, of USC Stem Cell, can now go to work finding ways to prevent or even reverse muscle and organ decline that occurs with aging. Meanwhile Huang, an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Keck School and a researcher at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, will use his award to investigate how changes in chromosomes may cause pediatric cancers.
The foundation also gave $75,000 to support the Keck School’s Medical Student Summer Research fellowship program.
