UniHealth Foundation has awarded $2 million to Keck Medicine of USC to study solutions to physician burnout. This research will address three major elements of physician burnout — emotional stress, skill mastery and workflow — by conducting a randomized clinical trial to explore different approaches to improving the mental health and job satisfaction of clinicians.
John L. Brodhead, MD, chief of medicine at Keck Hospital of USC, and Steven Siegel, MD, PhD, chief mental health and wellness officer at Keck Medicine, will lead the study. Their research will include input from Keck Medicine’s Care for the Caregivers program (headed by Siegel), the Keck School of Medicine of USC, USC Dornslife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and USC Viterbi School of engineering.
