News about health sciences at USC is entering a new phase.

Originally created to cover the Health Sciences Campus 34 years ago, the publication HSC News will move from the purview of the Keck Medicine of USC communications team to the Office of Health Affairs.

HSC News will be renamed Health Sciences News and expand its coverage. Coverage will include all health sciences schools and the entire Keck Medicine of USC system, which now stretches all the way to Las Vegas and Bakersfield.

“It’s time to look at health sciences at USC more expansively and collaboratively,” said Steve Shapiro, Senior Vice President for Health Affairs. “In this complex and rapidly moving world, no one discipline alone can impact health, prevent disease and get better outcomes. Health Sciences News will give us broader insight into how we’re creating the future of medicine, together.”

Since the publication’s first issue as HSC Weekly in 1991, USC has grown and changed significantly. Today, USC’s health enterprise includes U.S. News & World Report top-ranked academic programs and top-ranked clinical care specialties. Worldwide, people seek USC’s education and leading-edge, compassionate care as it moves from the lab to the bedside — and now, beyond into the community and the home with street medicine, digital care and wearables.

By moving to the Office of Health Affairs, this publication will help fulfill the office’s mission: to foster collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence in education, research and clinical care by amplifying the collective strengths of USC’s health sciences schools and the health care enterprise. We support our faculty, staff and students in cultivating an environment that advances health and drives innovation.

Health Sciences News will be published bi-weekly beginning later this August.
