Every year, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) ranks researchers and university departments according to its own endowments to each over the past 12 months. While the Keck School of Medicine of USC reached a prestigious overall ranking of No. 30, seven departments in particular placed within the top 10 in their respective fields.
The Department of Physiology and Neuroscience was rated No. 1 across the nation, and its chair, University Professor Berislav Zlokovic, MD, PhD, topped the list of neuroscience researchers. The other departments in the top 10 include: the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at No. 2 (for the eighth year in a row); the Catherine and Joseph Aresty Department of Urology at No. 2; the Department of Neurology at No. 4; the Department of Ophthalmology at No. 5; the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at No. 8; and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
The Keck School also received the distinction of No. 1 in funding per investigator.
