The latest annual survey of issues confronting hospitals from the American College of Healthcare Executives reported that personnel shortages ranked No. 1 on the list of hospital CEOs’ top concerns in 2021. It’s the first time since the survey began in 2004 that financial challenges were listed second.

When I think about why we, as senior executives, must focus much more of our time and resources on our workforce, it’s not a complicated discussion. We must do so because it’s the right thing to do for our people and it’s the right thing to do for our organizations.
