Steven Richeimer, MD, chief of the division of pain medicine at Keck Medicine of USC and professor of clinical anesthesiology and psychiatry and the behavioral sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, has announced that a new peripheral nerve stimulator is now being offered as a treatment option to help bring long-term relief to those who suffer from chronic pain. The nerve stimulator offers the benefits of the stimulation that some people are familiar with, but it delivers it with shorter treatment. For just 60 days, the device is implanted near the affected pain nerve through a minimally invasive procedure, and the patient is able to control it with a small hand-held remote.
