Approximately 66% of Americans with type 2 diabetes use mind-body practices such as yoga, meditation and tai chi because they believe it helps control their blood sugar. Until now, however, this widespread belief has never been scientifically quantified.

Now, new research from the Keck School of Medicine of USC shows that these practices can be nearly as effective as prescription medication at reducing blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. The report was published in the Journal of Integrative and Complementary Medicine.
