Brandy Hattendorf, MD, clinical associate professor of pediatrics (clinician educator) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, not only treats patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, but also is dedicated to ensuring children in countries across the world receive life-saving cardiac care.

Hattendorf recently traveled to Tanzania as a physician volunteer, providing free cardiac care for children including open heart surgeries and cardiac catheterizations as part of the Save a Child’s Heart international medical team. During the team’s visit, Tanzania’s president, John Magufuli, invited them to his home, where they were honored for their efforts and thanked for saving the lives of 29 Tanzanian children and providing care to many more.
