A new study from the Keck School of Medicine of USC shows that a substantial number of young people in the United States are using delta-8-THC, a psychoactive substance manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol.
The findings, published in JAMA, have raised concern among public health experts. Delta-8-THC has only been on the market since 2018, and it is still unregulated in many states. It is widely available at gas stations and online, and there is no federal minimum age requirement to purchase it.
