At the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the Skin of Color and Pigmentary Disorders Research Fellowship is part of a growing effort to end the disparities that patients of color face in dermatological care. This year’s selected fellow is Sarah Gonzalez, who is currently a medical student at Wayne State University in Detroit. She will conduct research to benefit patients around the world and contribute to programs that support minority communities in the Los Angeles area.
This year, dermatologist-recommended skincare brand La Roche-Posay is contributing to the fellowship fund. They are the first outside party to support program since its founding in 2018.
The research fellowship is part of the USC Skin of Color Center and Pigmentary Disorders Program, which combines culturally sensitive dermatologic care with research on conditions that affect patients of color. It is the only program of its kind in Southern California and one of just a few in the country.
