Rohit Varma, MD, MPH, director of the USC Eye Institute, attended a May 19 meeting of the Institute of Medicine (soon to be renamed the National Academy of Medicine) as a member of a committee that will assess public health approaches to reduce vision impairment and promote eye health in the United States.
The meeting in Washington D.C. was the first step in a two-year study that will guide national policy on this issue.
Varma is also the chair of ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
