Ajay Vyas, JD, has been promoted to deputy health-care compliance officer, effective Sept. 3. In his new role, Vyas is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the compliance programs for Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and the Keck Medical Center of USC.
He is also the compliance plan provider for USC Care Medical Group, the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, USC Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy and the USC School of Pharmacy.
Vyas assumed the role from Tammy Capretta, RN, NPH, who will continue to oversee and provide strategic direction to the health-care compliance program. He will report to Capretta in his new role and to Laura LaCorte, JD, associate senior vice president, compliance, for all privacy matters.
Vyas has spent the majority of his career in health-care compliance. Prior to USC, Ajay served as system vice president, chief compliance and privacy officer at Provena Health, a Chicago based health care system now part of Presence Health, where he provided strategic direction, development and implementation of the health-care compliance and privacy program for six acute care facilities, multiple physician groups and various other ancillaries while reporting to the Provena Health CEO and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Before working with Provena, Vyas served as assistant vice president and compliance counsel for St. Joseph Health System. He was responsible for providing compliance and legal support relating to all aspects of operations, including oversight, monitoring and implementation of the St. Joseph Health System Corporate Responsibility Program throughout its 14 hospitals, affiliates and subsidiaries in California, New Mexico and Texas.
Vyas received a bachelor of science degree in physiology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a juris doctor degree from California Western School of Law. In addition, he is a member of the State Bar of California and Illinois State Bar, and served as an adjunct faculty member at the St. Xavier Graham School of Management.
