This year, the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program has recognized a student and a recent alumnus from the Keck School of Medicine of USC. They join 22 additional students and alumni from across the university, making the University of Southern California a top producer of Fulbright students in the state. Additionally, the Fullbright Scholar Program has selected Serghei Mangul, PhD, an assistant professor for USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, to be a Fulbright Scholar.
Set to receive his MD from the Keck School in May, Arthur Bookstein won a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to Japan, where he plans to research the impact of social determinants of health on viral-related liver cancer. After his Fulbright work, Bookstein intends on pursuing post-graduate training in combined internal medicine and pediatrics and later pursue a career as a medical oncologist, cancer researcher and policy advocate.
Gaveen Godage graduated in May 2024 with a Master of Science from USC Stem Cell. Godage has received a Fulbright Research Award to Germany, where he will be studying the genetic basis of congenital heart disease using stem cells from patients. After Fulbright, Godage plans to pursue a career in medicine, focusing on international collaborations to improve care for children with heart defects around the world.
