Stephen B. Gruber (far right), MD, MPH, director of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, discusses his thoughts about the discovery of the BRCA1 breast cancer gene at the Los Angeles premiere of Decoding Annie Parker, a feature film about the researcher who discovered the gene and Annie Parker (second from the left), who was one of the first women determined to have the gene.

USC Norris was one of the premiere’s sponsors, and Gruber and other USC Norris faculty, nurses and staff attended a red carpet event on Sept. 17 at the Directors Guild of America. They joined in celebrating the movie and the bravery of cancer researchers and patients. An educational panel and a reception followed the film, which will be released in theaters in January.
