A capacity crowd of almost 400 ophthalmologists and optometrists participated in a June 19 symposium that marked the Department of Ophthalmology’s 40th anniversary at USC.

The gathering at The Huntington in San Marino represented a “who’s who” in ophthalmology from around the country.

Hosted by the USC Eye Institute under the direction of Rohit Varma, MD, MPH, the all-day symposium was opened by USC president C. L. Max Nikias. Thomas E. Jackiewicz, MPH, senior vice president and CEO of Keck Medicine of USC, and Dean Carmen A. Puliafito of the Keck School of Medicine of USC were also in attendance.

Among its distinguished panelists were Stanley Chang, professor of ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center, and M. Roy Wilson, president of Wayne State University.  The agenda included other speakers from USC and institutions such as Stanford University School of Medicine and the University of California, San Diego.
